Insert explains the different percentage of black bars on a 4:3 TV screen in relation to the various aspect ratio's of feature films.

A 4:3 TV showing a film shot in 1.33:1 has 0% black bars, a 4:3 TV showing a film in 1.66:1 would be 10% black bars, 1.75:1 would be 12% black bars, 1.85:1 is 14% and 2.35:1 is 21%.
