This title was later repressed in very small batches by Kuraray on 1998-08-12 and priced-down from $39.98 to $24.98. Although unlike some late 90's repressings, the labels aren't updated to mention it as being manufactured in Japan, and appears to be the exact same as the 3M pressing.
The original 20th Century Fox logo that appears on this film has been plastered with the 1976 version of the 1953 logo, and also appears to be cropped to 4:3. The print of the film used for this transfer appears to have cue marks present at some points on the top right of the screen.
The Monaural soundtrack of this release sounds incredible for the time, especially for a film released in 1939, and the fact this was issued during the late 80's is rather impressive.
This film was photographed using 3-strip technicolor. And as a result, some scenes in the film have a subtle green tint on the right hand-side of the screen and some red on the left; this was probably sourced from a somewhat dodgy print with with these color problems, but other than that this release is pretty solid. |
