3M is in a hinge lid box, and more prone to rot. Far noisier than the later Pioneer pressing which is in a regular slip open box. Also, the Pioneer's framing is slightly shifted to the right. Their CLV is also this way.
My 3M copy is so rotted, you can see the rot physically on the disc. All 6 sides are covered with holes and speckles that actually let light pass through the discs. Video is covered with multi-colored snow, lines, and dropouts. Audio is heavily distorted on the digital channel, analog is usable, but the video is unwatchable. First disc I've ever seen that is this rotted. But hey, at least it still had the letter.
The 3M version spreads the movie across 3 discs CAV and puts additional features at the end of side 6. There are no pictures on the back of the 3M version.
The Pioneer is in CLV and takes only 3 sides of 2 discs.
The back cover of the later Pioneer version has a picture of Kier Dullea as Dave Bowman as he disconnects HAL's memory on the lower right corner of the back.
