Chapter 33 features the first issue of the manga in a motion-comic format exclusive to this disc, where pressing play triggers the animation to the next panel.

Chapter 42 in the Akira Archives portion of the extras features a slideshow of the first issue as full pages, which is useful for seeing the panels in context, but is too small to actually read most of the text. However, chapter 42 goes on to present highlights from subsequent issues of the manga in a much easier to read slideshow format of individual panels, closer to the chapter 33 motion comic but without the animation.

As noted on the paper insert that originally came with the disc, the title page for each new section of extras animates to the first slide of those extras a page-turn effect which is supposed to be triggered when you press step-frame forward, as instructed to on-screen - but on most Pioneer players, the step key does not work with this transition, and you must press play to trigger the page-turn to the next slide instead.

The disc has NO English closed captions to use as subs with the Japanese audio track (unlike the similarly dual-language Criterion LD of Supercop, which uses English closed captions as a removable English subtitle track with the Cantonese audio).
