He had a Tiffany lamp, and antique dining table, and a laser disc video attached to a Sony Trinitron,
but foam cushions on the floor rather than sofas and chairs.

Part of the Masters of American Music series. The first documentary ever made on John Coltrane with the full cooperation of his widow, Alice Coltrane. Includes interviews, performance clips (including one from 1946, believed to be his first ever on film), tracing his musical growth through his 40+ years, and culminating in a musical meeting between Art Ensemble of Chicago saxophonist Roscoe Mitchell and dervish musicians in Morocco's Sahara Desert, filmed in 1990.

Includes 4-page insert with a detailed Track List that also lists the musicians accompanying Coltrane on each piece, in both English and Japanese, plus an incredibly detailed chronology of Coltrane's life, entirely in Japanese.

Track/Year Filmed List:

  1. Impressions (1963)
  2. Koko (1946) ~ Things To Come ~ Hot House
  3. Round Midnight (1959) ~ Giant Steps
  4. So What ~ Blue Monk (1959)
