Contrary to popular misconception, this Japanese release of The Shining is not letterboxed. It features the same open-matte video transfer used on the American laserdisc. Some misleading text (in Japanese) on the jacket makes reference to the theatrical aspect ratio "1x1.66", but the disc is not presented in that ratio.

This initial disappointment aside, the movie comes in a very nice gatefold jacket that is much more attractive than the American release.
