First AC-3 title to be mastered using an updated AC-3 encoding algorithm that extended high frequency response and -3db point past 18kHz to 22kHz and raised the channel coupling frequency to 10 kHz and up. Also used an improved bit allocation system that reduced audible artifacts. Like DTS, all improvements to the AC-3 encoder are passed on to the decoder so a new decoder is not required to gain the improved sound.
Analog Audio Channel 2/R has been replaced by the Dolby Surround AC-3 Digital signal. With systems not designed to decode and playback AC-3, the signal will produce only continuous noise on the channel. This is normal. Initial shipments of Dolby Surround AC-3 Digital playback and decoding equipment are scheduled for delivery to the marketplace in 1995. To eliminate the noise, select Digital Audio playback, or play the monaural program by selecting Analog Audio 1/L only.
