This box set also includes a book: "George Lucas, The Creative Impulse" (ASIN/ISBN: 0-8109-3564-3)
Some early pressings of this set are known to have various mastering issues. The most serious are: weak or missing CC signal and 7 seconds missing from ESB at the start of side 3.
The majority of the remaining faults are spelling mistakes in subtitles & CC, and errors in the printed chapter guide & liner notes.
A copy of "The Definitive Collection Flaw List" by Ed Weiland can be read here. |

This disc was made by two manufacturers: Pioneer Japan and Mitsubishi. While the Mitsubishi pressing is superior to the Pioneer Japan pressing with CC and the entirety of ESB on it, it is noticeably more prone to rot than the Pioneer Japan pressing. My copy, which was manufactured by Mitsubishi has light rot on ROTJ sides 1, 2 and 6, whereas ANH and ESB are completely clean. |

Lucasfilm would later source these masters as bonus discs for the 2006 re-releases of the original trilogy DVD set. They would of course be criticized by the Star Wars community since they knew they did this as a cash-grab thanks to it being non-anamorphic and loads of DNR and that George Lucas only prefers to update the 1997 versions of the trilogy with every future release. |
