Internally, the LG-1 will extract the captioning information from audio PCM coming from TOSLINK IN and then overlay the text coming from VIDEO IN to VIDEO OUT.

Unless you are using the TOSLINK for digital audio, you do not need to connect the TOSLINK OUT to anything, it will work without.
