This edition offers a better transfer than the older CBS/Fox [4514-80], and the original MGM [ML101264] releases with fewer film dirts and more consistent contrast during dark scenes (it does have a few more scratches and tears than the original CBS/Fox and MGM releases, however).

This edition was transferred from Turner Entertainment's 35mm nitrate archival negative to a digital video master. The soundtrack was transferred from a sweetened 35mm magnetic track made from an optical master.

Contains a unique commentary by film historian Ronald Haver.

The transfer from the 35mm nitrate negative to video is excellent with good contrast throughout. The only downside is that my 3M manufactured copy has medium to strong rot throughout. A Pioneer pressing might be better if you can locate one.
