Current status (updated 2004-09-22)

  1. Added half-stars condition grading (from 1/2 = 1 to 5 = 10)
Example: Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (1999) [LBX/AC3/THX] [PILF-2830]

Current status (updated 2004-09-07)

  1. Wishlist were improved!

Now, if you push "Show Notify" on a Wishlist list display, you will get the Yes/No Email notification request but also a more detailed way to define your notifications: by price and/or status. These "wishes" are used to generate best bid (as well as best ask from Shop) on each LD detail page.

  2. Added "Cover Pictures History" in the stats
  3. Added Feedback/Sent/Reveived Orders status on the Account page to anticipate Shops
  4. Added "Ultra Stereo" logo
  5. Added Graph History for Covers
  6. Added "Export" for Wishlist too ( thank you dadon )
  7. Expanded the "Your query also found xxx matching titles in pending submissions" to all lists pages
  8. Extended Shop Category description from 24 to 32 characters
  9. Added *Various*= for picture ratio. This will trigger a "See notes..." for the Ratio.
  10. Added Taiwan as possible Country of Release
  11. Renamed "LaserActive" into "LD-ROM" ( thank you n$a (290))
  12. Added a different border on cover picture when the mouse is hovering them
  13. You can now force the number of items display in your Shop using &max= in the main URL.
This will be propagated to all your Shop. Text display will use 'max' values. Cover display will use max/2.
  14. Integration of French, German, Italian and Dutch translations on going
  15. Active Shops will be daily scanned to be included into Jeff's http://www.usedmoviefinder.com/
  16. Modified the Bulk Upload to allow "TAB" as a ref/barcode separator (no more one by line)
  17. Past transactions stats are working! I'll write a front-end to check price history when stats available will be big enough.
  18. Moved "Coverage" (IMDb, UPC, Cover) in a separate module on the Index page
  19. Added statistics on Active Shops and Quantity of LDs for sale
  20. In case "1,33" is used for "Ratio", I will automatically replace the comma with a point.
  21. Modified Daily statistics to also keep track of number of Active Shops, Inventory Items, etc.
  22. Added a simple LDDb Banner if you feel like linking this site from yours...
  23. Added a Shop Policy edit page for Sellers.

Current status (updated 2004-08-08)

  1. We just passed the 35.000 titles!
  2. Slightly modified the Main index page to give it a fresh look
  3. Finally added a Mini-FAQ and icon descriptions!
  4. Added "Tinted" to color choices
  5. References are now display with link capability. Each character will trigger a Reference search on its left part. This allows to look for "neighboords" titles more easily. Example:
    • Clicking on the P' in 'PILF-1234' will trigger a search on P*
    • Clicking on the I' in 'PILF-1234' will trigger a search on PI*
    • Clicking on the L' in 'PILF-1234' will trigger a search on PIL*
    • Clicking on the F' in 'PILF-1234' will trigger a search on PILF*
    • Clicking on the -' in 'PILF-1234' will trigger a search on PILF-*
    • Clicking on the 1' in 'PILF-1234' will trigger a search on PILF-1*
    • etc...
  6. Lists and Searches were enhanced, highlighting or sorting will no longer take the list at its first items
  7. Year and Length are fully working in the Advanced Search now

Current status (updated 2004-07-24)

  1. Removed the session box on the left when logged (useless for now)
  2. Fixed a bug in the list highlight that caused items in closed shops to be underlined
  3. Moved the Collection/Wishlist controls on search/list in a separate box
  4. Modified the list/search to additionally sort titles by year in case of identical titles but different contents
  5. Generalized the Show/Hide Controls also for Collection and Wishlist
  6. Modified the Barcode field to accept less-than-12-digits UPC in special cases (very old releases without the Check digit)
  7. Added Google automated search next to IMDb, eBay and Amazon (removed - 2009/05/01)
  8. Added Top 100 also for Inserted/Validated lists
  9. Added "CD Video" Logo
  10. Upgraded JPGraph from 1.14 to 1.16
  11. Fixed a Search Result Coll/Wish controls bug

Current status (updated 2004-07-15)

  1. Added several non-Dolby surround modes (Chace, Ultra and DTS Stereo)
  2. Now made the PHP variables "Global OFF" (better for security, had to rewrite some parts)
  3. Collection series (Star Wars, IMAX, etc.) logo now point to their respective lists.
  4. Added "With cover" option for advanced searches.
  5. Added a "not" option for advanced searches.
  6. You may add directly a LD to your collection when submitting an update.
  7. The statistics got a new layout with automatic redirection from the combo box.
  8. The TOP 10 just became the TOP 100 with new categories.
  9. If Bulk Upload does not answer your needs (huge collection or no existing UPC/Reference listing at hand), I added Collection/Wishlist controls on each LD lists (either pre-defined or search). Titles already in your Collection/Wishlist will be ignored.
  10. All other updates are invisible from User side.

Current status (updated 2004-06-05)

  1. Cart/Shops were improved.
  2. Fixed a bug when moving Wishlist Title to Collection is Title was already present in Collection.
  3. Removed the useless *none* field for Language #2, causing too many update mistakes.
  4. Added 3, 6 and 12 months Graph history for Collections and Wishlists.
  5. Added "Export All" in User Shop Inventory.
  6. Added a function to easy cloning of identical/close titles (admin function for now).
  7. Added a few description on the daily statistic graphs to explain their meaning.
  8. Modified "Collection Distribution" to split the 100-200 range in 10.
  9. Added "Spain" to the list of country with specific releases.
  10. Added a random cover display on the main index page (why not?)

Current status (updated 2004-05-04)

  1. Merging process was modified to be faster and easier for me to use.
  2. Shopping Cart improved, but not ready yet.
  3. A very good news: Google.com started to index each and every LD pages (they were previously only indexing the lists). A lot more hits and also a much better service via Google since people usually look for the UPC or the reference number. Google now provide a direct link the LD description page.
  4. We just passed the 5000 hits/month last month.
  5. Fixed the Collection Size statistics (missing TTF file).
  6. Fixed a bug in the Advanced Search engine that caused "subtitled?" and "captioned?" to be useless.
  7. Fixed a bug in the LD Description page that made it go mad for "cancelled" titles.

Current status (updated 2004-04-01)

  1. There was a big evolution in the PHP Code (in modules, no more lengthy pages of code) that cannot be seen directly. But the page loading should be faster.
  2. Modified the "About Page" controls to reject empty description.
  3. Updated the design to offer contextual Help for login/registering/search. More coming, do not hesitate to comment their accuracy.
  4. Shops creation is done. Item adding into Shops is done. Listing items is done. I need beta testers!
  5. Yet another stupid bug caused the display of Laserdisc Details to be incredibly slow (up to 5 seconds or more). It is now back typically below one second.
  6. Allowed "Digital only" soundtrack for NTSC Titles (for 5" CDV)
  7. Froze some accounts (about 7%) because of wrong Email address or >300 days 0 activity, deleted some also (about 8) to clean up the active users list a bit.
  8. The trend of new users registration is excellent, I hope my efforts will serve everyone!
  9. Added a dynamic status of the number of people loging in in the past 24h (top right)
  10. Added a LDDb# Search box, equivalent of the LDDb# Search box but for internal numbering.
  11. Finally updated my regexp code to substitute the LD reference while cross-referencing using #LDDb= function. It will show something like [PILF-1234] instead of [LDDb] now. Minor impact on display time.
  12. Shopping Cart are being integrated into the shops (for shops beta-testers only)

Current status (updated 2004-03-01)

  1. BUG FIX! Sorry the Notify function was buggy... please input your Notify preferences again...

Current status (updated 2004-02-29)

  1. Added an additional test to allow "the", "a", "an", "le", "la", "les", etc. to be matched "The Game" will find both "Game, The" and "Rules of the Game, The". Search time increase is about 10%.
  2. Modified the "Merge from Update" code to allow "Merge from Submit" when an already existing title is submitted again. No more manual copy/paste for me from one to the other!
  3. Modified the "Author" Search to "User" Search with wildcard. Thanks to joshzyber (1) for the idea. Example:

    1. All users with a login starting with a 'a'

  4. Fixed a major security bug that allowed un-logged people to access reserved areas.
  5. Updated the Bulk Upload to accept UPC/Barcodes too.
  6. Updated the "Advanced Search" to accept a search by Collection.
  7. Wrote a completely new interface to refine Laser Rot reports and give them a level of "rotness". The "Rot Report" for each title (example here) was also updated to reflect this enhancement.
  8. Added a full Site Map to give you an overall view of the site contents.
  9. Moved "Submit new LD" to "Account" with new name: "Insert LD".
  10. Renamed "Query" to "Search".
  11. Enhanced the Wishlist Front-End. You may now select which title should notify you with an Email when it becomes available in a User Shop! Also rewrote the Wishlist PHP Code to used POST instead of GET values.

Current status (updated 2004-02-01)

  1. Modified the "recent" lists from 5 to 10
  2. Many thanks to roger (1) for the comments/updates.
  3. Added the search string to title bar
  4. Added three links on the Search Output Table:
    • [+] will display results underlining titles present in your collection (or nothing if you're not logged)
    • [#] will display results underlining titles present in all collections
    • [$] will display results underlining titles present in user shops (not active yet)
It's easier to see which LD in your collection still lacks the cover picture. Maybe a different color would be enough? What is your opinion? You can see that "Star Wars" is quite well collected!

    1. All Star Wars movies collected in current user collections

  5. Finally update the "laser rot" engine with a decent dedicated page and associated stats display. Check a sample here:

Laser Rot report for: Lost Highway US Pressing

  6. Uploaded a beta version of the "Advanced Search" Interface. Feedbacks welcomed!
  7. Added specific help/guidelines for LD Submission. Be sure to check them at least once when submitting a new Title, even if you're a LD Guru (to be finished, half done).
  8. The "Kill Account" function is now working. For unresponsive account (wrong Email or last login > 300 days), I'll "kill" the ID associated with the account. Collection and Wishlist will be backup'ed just in case. No more possible to log in, account information unavailable for other users. Information ownership (LD and Cover pictures) are also kept.

Current status (updated 2004-01-12)

  1. Modified the "shadow character" behavior to create sub-ordering. Examples:
    • JM03*-* will sort JM034-* then JM038-* (natural sort)
    • JM03_-* will shadow (won't care about) the 4th character and mix JM034-* and JM038-* results
  2. Added more European Publishers (UK and Netherlands)
  3. Fixed some Publishers name mistypings
  4. Fixed the Thumbnail picture generation (previously loosing some information on the sides)
  5. Added a random sponsored banner link display
  6. Fixed several harmless bugs during LD submission
  7. Fixed a major bug in Bulk Upload. Thanks to wmhpowell .
  8. Will soon remove empty "About Page".
  9. Added "Open Matte" as a possible aspect ratio.

Current status (updated 2003-12-20)

  1. Updated the Daily Stats Refresh that was computing the same values endlessly and slowing down the display of each LD details...
  2. Modified the Collection/Wishlist ranking. Now I keep 'ex-aequo' at the same rank so that a unique LD in a collection will not be #4000+ anymore but in the #1750+ range (based on current data). Thanks to publius (14) for the idea!
  3. Modified User account status to be active/frozen/killed. With adequate handling:
    • Active: Normal status.
    • Frozen: Email non working, more than 365 days of no-activity.
    • Killed: The login becomes available again, collection/wishlist killed.
  4. Added support for LaserActive titles.
  5. Added a SPAM filtering that will block IP that previously harvested Email addresses from one of my websites...

Current status (updated 2003-11-30)

Just fixed this annoying black bottom bar who decided to visit the right side of the screen on Internet Explorer...

Current status (updated 2003-11-22)

Back online! ... moving to Beta #2 Level

  1. More than 120 registered users!
  2. More than 30.000 validated entries in the main Database!
  3. More than 9.000 LDs in all the collections!

Features newly added:
  1. Another predefined list for RENTAL Titles.
  2. Added comprehensive statistics to let you see how the Database and the website is slowly evolving.
  3. Additional information with IMDb or LDDb links (using #IMDb and #LDDb) will now:
    1. Create a new window for #IMDB, keep same window for #LDDb
    2. Each #IMDB cross-reference will also add an automated [#] internal IMDb search
  4. IMDb updated their URL format, I followed their new template.
  5. Fixed a bug that caused to display "CX/Digital" on titles with different Analog L/R Tracks where CX encoding cannot be used.
  6. Added Spine # for Criterion Release full display
  7. Modified "Soundtrack" to the more appropriate "Musical Score"
  8. Modified Title Search to perform search on both 'and' and '&' at the same time
  9. Added a new way to query multiple IMDB refs at the same time. It's currently URL based only, the parameter IMDB can be loaded with IMDb # separated with "+". Search will still be also performed on Extra Notes as well. User Interface will come later. Ideally it would take an existing IMDb URL as a parameter and extract relevant IMDb # inside to automatically list the corresponding LD releases. Example:

    • Click on the following link for a complete Quentin Tarantino Directing list: [TARANTINO]
    • Click on the following link for a complete Stanley Kubrick Directing list: [KUBRICK]
    • Click on the following link for a complete Luc Besson Directing list: [BESSON]
    • Click on the following link for a complete David Fincher Directing list: [FINCHER]

  10. Modified the LD Update display to provide information on past updates. Example: The first Update ever validated
  11. Finally modified the EDIT interface to not loose all information when a single field is wrong...
  12. Updated code to allow the TITLE [REF] to be displayed in the Browser title bar
  13. Added experimental auto-search link on live/clips/classical/jazz titles using :* as search field.
  14. Fixed a bug that caused Update and Submission Data to get all mixed up...
  15. Added some help popups on the LD Update display.
  16. Made the discarding of spaces and dashes optional on the "Query" page via Checkbox
  17. Optimized some of my commonly used PHP functions, output should be speeded up a little.
  18. Bulk Upload for Collection/Wishlist is finally there!
  19. Cover pics are no more completely downloaded every time but will trigger the creation of a smaller 200x200 thumbnail that will be cached for further reload of the page.
  20. I added a watermarked "LDDb.com" on full cover picture due to reuse in auctions/forums. I don't want sellers to pretend this is their actual item while using another picture.
  21. Fixed the Collection/Wishlist download in TXT/CSV/XML/XLS that was not working...
  22. Added a function to compute the number of unique IMDb references in the main Catalog. Currently: 3701.

Current status (updated 2003-08-06)

I will soon move to Tokyo for my company. But that does not mean that LDDb.com will stop breathing. It only means that site development will stop for a few weeks (when my PC will be on a boat between France and Japan) and resume probably in October.

In the meantime, all submissions, updates, collections, wishlists or laser rot reports will still be fully working.

The first beta site was launched exactly one year ago with the first 10,000 entries I validated manually. Today the status is as follows:

  1. 70 registered users, some very active ones
  2. 28728 validated entries in the main Database
  3. 4366 pending entries (more to be added, especially PAL)
  4. 5319 LDs in all the collections
  5. 264 LDs in all the wishlists
  6. Only 40 laser rot reports
  7. 2000 hits (that's 5/6 hits a day, currently around 20 thanks to Google indexing the site)

So, see you in Autumn, from Japan, for new features and more titles!

Features newly added:
  1. Added "Color and B&W" for titles with both color and B&W sequences
  2. Modified the search engine on References to drop spaces and dashes.
  3. *IMPORTANT*: Finally added a cookie-based setting on the Login screen to force the site to keep you logged even if the session is randomly killed. Current data during Submission might still be lost though.
  4. Fixed the "Analog + DTS" description to "Analog-CX + DTS".
  5. *IMPORTANT*: initial data were lacking all the "The ...", "A ...", "An ...", etc. for titles. I will now correct each title I have to modify to add missing words following IMDb methods. "Game" is not "Game, The", "Thing" becomes "Thing, The" to keep alphabetical sorting correct.

Current status (updated 2003-07-25)

Features newly added:
  1. Added "Digi-Pak" in the list of available Packages.
  2. Fixed a bug that caused the "out of picture" information to get lost in the merge process.

Current status (updated 2003-07-14)

Several more users have joined us from different sources (post in newsgroup or forum web sites) and some of them already input their (sometimes huge) collection and/or wishlist. Some enhancements were added to the visual (which is in no way the final one).

Hint: when linking the web site (for example to distribute the URL to your LD Collection, prefer http://LDDb.com/ to http://japanld.free.fr/ as LDDb.com is the only site address guarenteed to be valid all the time.

Do not forget that in addition to Collections and Wishlists, you have the ability for each title -- after logging -- to submit a laserrot warning on all titles you own or owned and know for sure to be a rotter. This will help to create a statistical listing of titles to avoid at all times or issue a warning on some specific titles that can either rot to hell or remain unchanged after several years.

Some titles already listed as rotters:

Current integration level is as follows:

  1. US Laserdiscs: 14280 done, 2318 pending (13.97%).
  2. Japanese LDs: ALL done, few remaining anime titles waiting for integration.
  3. PAL Laserdiscs: About 456 French titles added, still processing...

Features newly added:
  1. Added visual tooltips on logos and icons, more to be added soon.
  2. Added automatic visual darkening on titles lists to ease tracking and pointing.
  3. Added a red star () on lists to show that it was modified recently.
  4. Added support for DiscoVision titles (thanks to cyclograph (5) for the inputs!).
  5. Fixed a stupid bug that caused limited results on search based on IMDB number.
Under development:
  1. Enhanced Search Engine for Laserdiscs
  2. Add automated code to upload Cover pictures (from 200x200 to 800x800, < 150k, JPEG).
  3. Allow bulk upload of Collection/Inventory.
  4. Setup User Stores (icon: ).

Current status (updated 2003-06-07)

Several new users have joined us and started inputing their collection/wishlist and contributing to the system. Many thanks to them. I've been reworked some of the functions of the site, nothing fundamental but I cleared some code and simplified some SQL queries.

Do not hesitate to add a small description or yourself or a link to your personal web site in your "About Page". I also modified the Account Display so that you may now have a look on other users. Example, click on the login name:

I started adding support for the Player Database (pre-defined listing were updated too) by adding a few players as drafts, you may have a look at them here, any feedback on wanted details or display advice is welcomed!:

  • Pioneer LD-S9 (link removed)
  • Pioneer CLD-R5 (link removed)
  • Pioneer CLD-D925 (link removed)
  • Pioneer CLD-HF9G (link removed)

Current integration level is as follows:

  1. US Laserdiscs: 14166 done, 2433 pending (14.66%).
  2. Japanese LDs: ALL done, remaining titles just waiting for integration into the main table.
  3. PAL Laserdiscs: About 320 French titles added, still processing...

Features newly added:
  1. Account public display for each user
  2. You can now browse the Registered Users listing by Country on the following page
  3. 'Year' was added to LD Submission
  4. Hits counter now displayed at the right of the bottom line
Under development:
  1. Enhanced Search Engine for Laserdiscs
  2. Add automated code to upload Cover pictures (from 200x200 to 800x800, < 150k, JPEG).
  3. Allow bulk upload of Collection/Inventory.
  4. Setup User Stores (icon: ).

Current status (updated 2003-05-13)

Here is an updated snapshot of day to day status since the web site was started:

Current status (updated 2003-05-11)

Some good news again! First of all, I finally could get the LD Inventory file form a Paris A/V Store with numerous barcodes for NTSC titles. This will really speed up the integration of PAL Titles. And the "About Page" feature is now working, so you can add your own personnal description for everybody else to get to know you easily.

Many thanks to navy75 for providing the archive!

Current integration level is as follows:

  1. US Laserdiscs: 13845 done, 2755 pending (16.60%).
  2. Japanese LDs: ALL done, remaining titles just waiting for integration into the main table.
  3. PAL Laserdiscs: About 160 French titles added, still processing...

Features newly added:
  1. The "About" personnal pages (icon: ) is now available!
Under development:
  1. Add automated code to upload Cover pictures (from 200x200 to 800x800, < 150k, JPEG).
  2. Allow bulk upload of Collection/Inventory.
  3. Setup User Stores (icon: ).

Current status (updated 2003-04-21)

ISP troubles seem to be fixed, only user sessions tends disappear sometimes with no warning... The 25.000 milestone was passed and is now far behind, IMDB coverage is reaching soon 10%.

Many thanks again to cyclograph (5), tkmedia , widescreen , bobbie_g and prospect60   for inputing their collection details along with many covers!

Current integration level is as follows:

  1. US Laserdiscs: 12214 done, 4457 pending (26.73%).
  2. Japanese LDs: ALL done, remaining titles just waiting for integration into the main table.
  3. PAL Laserdiscs: waiting for Database Archive.

Features newly added:
  1. New TOP 10 categories
  2. Collections and Wishlists lists now show the 'P' for 'Picture of Cover available'.
  3. LD Display cut to a width of 800 to keep coherence between various screens.
  4. Redrawn logo for "TV Size" and "Pan & Scan" to fit 4:3 ratio
  5. "Misc Info" are now in a separate table so that several users can send descriptions on a same title and keep credit for it.
  6. This previous modification forced an update of IMDB search and submission/validation, so that each user can update his own description but not the one from others.
  7. I wrote the code needed to dynamically create 200x200 thumbnails from the (rather big) cover pictures and make the loading of the pages faster and lighter. However my ISP restrained this function to Black & White output only. Not really nice, it is on hold for now. I'll find a different idea to implement this.
Under development:
  1. Get and process the PAL Archive to finish feeding the Dabatase.
  2. Add automated code to upload Cover pictures (from 200x200 to 800x800, < 150k, JPEG).
  3. Allow bulk upload of Collection/Inventory.
  4. Setup User Stores (icon: ) and "Me" personnal pages (icon: ).

Current status (updated 2003-03-30)

Some more ISP troubles: you might have noticed an enormous numbers of "internal Server Error" which are directly due to misconfiguration of Apache Servers on my ISP's side. This does not void using the site but it surely makes its usage longer and less attractive... I'm still waiting for their reply on this issue.

This time, my greatest thank you goes to cyclograph (5) for his several covers submissions and many updates on already existing titles.

We just passed the 25.000 titles in the Database with more than 6% IMDB Coverage, which is a very good trend. widescreen will also provide a great list of titles released in Italy, thus enlarging the Database even more. The current integration level is as follows:

  1. US Laserdiscs: 12135 done, 4536 pending (27.21%).
  2. Japanese LDs: ALL done, remaining titles just waiting for integration into the main table.
  3. PAL Laserdiscs: waiting for Database Archive.

Features newly added:
  1. No need to re-post data when clicking on "Back" after watching a specific title description.

Current status (updated 2003-03-02)

Still growing up! Visual design of the site might look a bit simple but it's only a temporary one because my main worry right now is to get the PHP Engine properly working to go public. Remaining US Titles wre added in the "Submit" table and are now slowly digested. The 25,000 milestone is in sight.

A great "thank you" this time to prospect60   and tkmedia for their current effort on putting all their collection data in the Database.

  1. US Laserdiscs: 11119 done, 5553 pending (33.30%).
  2. Japanese LDs: 8337 done, 2495 pending (23.03%).
  3. PAL Laserdiscs: waiting for Database Archive.
Features newly added:
  1. Allow user account details update.
Under development:
  1. I'm not happy with the fact that some page reloading might cause an action to be done twice... this will have to be modified with POST instead of GET code handling.
  2. Get and process the PAL Archive to finish feeding the Dabatase.
  3. Add automated code to upload Cover pictures (from 200x200 to 800x800, JPEG).
  4. Allow bulk upload of Collection/Inventory.
  5. Setup User Stores (icon: ) and "Me" personnal pages (icon: ).
  6. Add button to generate static HTML for inclusion in auctions.

Current status (updated 2003-02-01)

Back on Track! The local ISP was is over, however the main database is still dead on ldbay.fre.fr so I moved everything to another login on the same ISP: japanld.free.fr

A great "thank you" to bobbie_g who's been adding a lot of data to the Database these past weeks!

  1. US Laserdiscs: 10914 done, 6061 pending (35.70%).
  2. Japanese LDs: 7812 done, 3021 pending (27.89%).
  3. PAL Laserdiscs: waiting for Database Archive.
Features newly added:
  1. Wishlist are now working (same than catalog but private only and will be useful and shops will be launched)
  2. For additional notes: using syntax #IMDB=nnnnnnn where nnnnnnn is a IMDB Number will automatically produce an automated link to IMDB. Example: #IMDB=0087363 typed in the Notes field will produce => [IMDB] when displayed.

Example: Star Wars Trilogy: Special Edition [PILF-2860]

  3. These internal LDDb References may also be used to find titles inside compilation or box sets. A search on "Star Wars: A New Hope" with IMDB ID (0076759) will also fetch Trilogy releases:

    Example: IMDB 0076759

  4. In the very same way, to cross reference LDs in the Database, you may use the syntax #LDDb=nnn where nnn is the internal LD ID as found in the URL to a title: laserdisc.php?id=nnn. Example: #LDDb=9307 typed in the Notes field will produce => [LDDb] when displayed.

Example: Man Bites Dog [TVL 1074]

  5. Laser Rot is no more a single Yes/No item. Now I setup a separate table to collect Rot Reports and give a "Report status" for each title following this table. Only one report by title and by user will be accepted.
    • 0 report -> None reported
    • 1 report -> Low probability
    • 2-5 reports -> Possible candidate
    • 5-10 reports -> High probability
    • 10+ reports -> Avoid this release +
  6. Added automated links to Amazon.
  5. Allow user account details update (almost finished).
  6. Setup User Stores (icon: ) and "Me" personnal pages (icon: ).
  7. Add button to generate static HTML for inclusion in auctions.

Current status (updated 2003-01-12)

First of all: Happy New Year! Several new registered users joined us since the last update and sent me interesting feedbacks about missing things and good ideas that will join the "todo" list right away.

  1. US Laserdiscs: 10649 done, 6349 pending (37.35%).
  2. Japanese LDs: 7926 done, 3502 pending (30.64%).
  3. PAL Laserdiscs: waiting for Database Archive.

Mini-FAQ

How do I integrate LDs to the Main Database? I feel "safe" enough to input a new entry when I found it on two different lists coming from totally different sources. My main problem on remaining US titles is that I have 2 lists, one with correct Catalog Numbers and the other one with internal Ref of the store. I have then to match titles manually one by one...

What guarantees do I have that the data will not vanish in the void without warning? Well, virtually nothing but this site is the second I'm starting and the previous one (in French only: La Page des Gérériques) started back in 1994 and is still existing and growing!

But there is no "gold metal" LD! It's only aluminium with Gold Plastic... That is a very good remark and will force me to redesign part of the Database to remove the "Metal" field in all pages and keep the Plastic color with "Transparent, Gold (PAL, Rentals), Red (Evil Dead II), else..."

Features newly added:
  1. Finally, you can update missing/wrong information on existing LD entries with your values. Updates will then be processed manually.
  2. XLS/TXT/XML Export updated with litteral names for countries and video modes in Collection.
  3. When a title is completely described, although already in the database, ownership of submission will be granted to the author of full description.
Under development:
  1. I'm not happy with the fact that some page reloading might cause an action to be done twice... this will have to be modified with POST instead of GET code handling.
  2. Get and process the PAL Archive to finish feeding the Dabatase.
  3. Add automated links to Amazon.
  4. Allow bulk upload of Collection/Inventory.
  5. Allow user account details update (almost finished).
  6. Setup User Stores (icon: ) and "Me" personnal pages (icon: ).
  7. Add links to keep query results permanent (really needed?).
  8. Add button to generate static HTML for inclusion in auctions.

  2. The Wishlist will follow soon, more explanation later.
  3. Criterion Titles now have both Catalog and Spine numbers.
  4. I enhanced the Admin Interface to allow smooth processing of new data in a user (me!) friendly way (but I can give Admin Rights to other people too).
  5. I added two new icons to illustrate Admin rights () and newly registered (less than one month) users ().
  6. Both Collection/Wishlist anonymous data will trigger Rankings for titles. (e.g.: Ranking: 9th (with 345 copies listed in personnal collections))

Current status (updated 2002-11-8)

I just passed the 10.000+ titles in the Database by cross-checking the Laserviews Database with the Sight & Sound Database (after cleaning). I have still about 6.000 US titles, 11.000 Japan titles and 13.000 PAL titles to proceed.

But before going too far without a double-check, could you give me a hand on this? Before checking precise data, I'd like to make sure that the Reference vs Title are matching. I setup an additional column on LIST/SEARCH (the search box is working now) labelled 'Valid' full of 'OK'.

If you grab some of your LDs, type some words in the Quick Search Box:

  1. Ex1: '2001' to find about 2001 LDs release already integrated.
  2. Ex2: '*' is used for wildchars like '*alien*' to find all titles with the word alien

Then you'll get a list of titles and if one is matching its spine number is matching the title both on your LD and the database, then push OK! (hint: open a new window to keep you search active and close it later).

Thanks in advance for you help!

Note: You'll need to login first to reach the Catalog/List or Quick Search pages. There are some troubles with the login procedure, please do not mind if you need to login 2 or 3 times before getting the right page.

Note 2: do not mind the color, layout, etc. as it's in no way the final design.
